Choose your card for the week from the recently released Deviant Moon Tarot by Patrick Valenza. When making your selection, don’t worry about what the cards mean. Base your choice on the pictures—the stories they tell and how they make you feel.
Let us know which card you chose—post a comment!
This week I received my pre-order of Deviant Moon Tarot from Tarot Garden, and I can hardly keep my hands off it. I LOVE this deck, which is wonderfully dark and surreal. Valenza’s interpretations are rich and multi-layered.
I highly recommend reading this interview with Valenza, found at The Tarot Channel. He discusses how the deck came about as well as his artistic process. Fascinating. Also be sure to visit his MySpace page. There are excellent reviews of the deck by Solandia and Dan Pelletier at Aeclectic.
One of the reasons I’m drawn to this deck is that Valenza’s style reminds me of one of my favorite surrealist artists, Remedios Varo (1908-1963). Here’s a great book about her—Remedios Varo: Unexpected Journeys by Janet A. Kaplan.
Remedios Varo, Celestial Pablum
Remedios Varo, Exploration of the Sources of the Orinoco

Grin, I chose the Page of Pentacles. I kept coming back to that wrench and thinking what a great tool it was.
Missed you last week! Glad to see you are back. I highlighted your blog in my blog yesterday.

Wow wow wow! What a beautiful deck… I really need to pick that one up!
I also chose the Page of Pentacles. I was drawn to the look on the Page’s face, as well as the wrench. What a lovely card from what appears to be a lovely deck!

Arwen and Dayna, thanks for writing in.
I’m so glad I included that Page. He was a last minute decision. (I originally had the Five of Pentacles in his place, but I thought one Five was enough–like you, Arwen, I seem to be drawn to the fives lately.
That wrench won me over. He looks so capable with it, doesn’t he?

Arwen,
P.S. I did indeed skip my post last week. Your review in Musings has given me a shot of energy. Thank you!!!

Very interesting and unusual deck.

I choose the 4 wands because I love the feeling that this card invokes, especially with the full moon high in the sky and also the ivy binding them together, soulmates creating a home together, no matter how eclectic they seem to others
Thanks for posting this deck Susan, another for my ever-growing wishlist!
Blessings

Another vote for the Page of Pentacles! Cat, good luck with your venture this week. I hadn’t noticed that red shoe!
And Mouse, I’m glad you like the Four of Wands. Nice interpretation! It’s probably one of the more tender cards in the deck.
Welcome to you both!

9 of Swords. Melancholy and filled with sorrow for lost times, people, things, opportunities…

Thanks for writing in, Quirk. 9 of Swords weeks are hard, but hopefully the card at least validates what you are going through. Take good care.

I chose the 4 of Wands, purely because I liked the look of the card with the two faces in the foreground and the fantastic looking house in the background. A melon-house?
I might have to buy this deck, it looks great!

Hello Cathy,
I like that melon house, too!
I’ve been checking your blog to keep up with your journey back home. What an experience!

The Hierophant.
He seems so sad and defeatet by his own traditions, but does not have the fantasy to think outside the box.

Sar, you’ve described this card so perfectly! I love your hit on it. Thanks for writing.
